Proven technology with new possibilities
Hydraulic couplings play a central role in mobile machinery, construction equipment and heavy-duty applications. They must be reliable, durable and easy to use. The QRC-FG coupling series from STAUFF has proven itself in this area for over a decade. Now the series is being expanded. In the following sections of this article, we reveal why this expansion is important and for which applications the new nominal widths are of interest.
Why easy handling on the construction site is crucial
In practice, quick and error-free installation is essential. Hydraulic systems are often exposed to high loads, whether due to pressure peaks, vibrations or extreme weather conditions.
A user-friendly coupling minimises downtimes, facilitates maintenance and reduces assembly errors. STAUFF relies on intuitive solutions that can be operated safely even under difficult conditions.
The new nominal sizes in detail: DN 6 and DN 51
The expansion of the QRC-FG series offers customised solutions for different requirements:
DN 6: Developed for applications with limited installation space and low volume flows. Perfect for demolition excavators where the hydraulic flow must be precisely controlled.
DN 51: This size was developed at the request of the offshore, mining and heavy-duty industry. It is suitable for extreme applications where high flow rates and robust connections are required.
Coupling under residual pressure: a decisive advantage
A significant further development of the QRC-FG series is the ability to connect the couplings on both sides under residual pressure.
While previous models could only be connected on the plug side up to a maximum of 250 bar, the new generation allows even more flexible handling. This offers enormous advantages, especially for maintenance work or system conversions under pressure.
Screw or plug? Choosing the right coupling
Screw couplings and plug-in couplings each have their advantages and disadvantages.
Plug-in couplings are quick to connect, but are susceptible to wear due to vibrations and pressure peaks.
Screw couplings such as the QRC-FG offer a larger contact surface between plug and socket, which distributes the load more evenly and increases durability.
Thanks to their robust design, screw couplings are the first choice for demanding applications in the construction and industrial sectors.
Maximum corrosion protection thanks to zinc/nickel coating
The QRC-FG couplings are provided with a special zinc/nickel surface that ensures particularly high corrosion protection.
Tests according to DIN EN ISO 9227 have shown a red rust resistance of over 720 hours - a top value among the competition. At the same time, the coating is environmentally friendly and free from Cr6.
Hydraulics meets electrics: future trends in mobile machines
Modern construction machinery increasingly relies on a combination of hydraulics and electrics. Electric excavators and autonomous machines require safe connections for electrical cables.
STAUFF offers special fastening solutions for cable protection systems to ensure reliable and space-saving installation of electrical supply lines.
Quality assurance in the "STAUFF Manufaktur"
The production of QRC-FG couplings is subject to strict quality controls. Precise assembly is particularly important for the small nominal size DN 6.
Manual assembly of the smallest sizes with camera-supported control.
Leak tests during and after installation.
Seal of approval only after passing the final inspection to ensure the highest quality.
With these measures, STAUFF ensures that every coupling can withstand the high demands of practical use.
FAQs
What advantages does the new DN 6 coupling offer?
Why was the DN 51 coupling developed?
Due to the requirements of the offshore and mining industry, this coupling was designed for extreme conditions with high flow rates.
How does coupling under residual pressure work?
Coupling under residual pressure is made possible by a double valve system on the plug side. When coupling, the rear valve first relieves the pressure so that complete coupling can then take place. A different solution is used on the socket side: Here, the pressurised ring area is designed to be as small as possible in order to minimise the force required when engaging under pressure.
What advantages does the zinc/nickel coating offer?
It effectively protects the clutch against corrosion and increases the service life, especially under harsh conditions.
