Spotted in everyday life, now on the STAUFF blog
Some of the application photos shown in this and other blog posts come directly from our employees. This is because, via the in-house STAUFF S³ app, all STAUFF Group employees worldwide can very easily document everyday uses of STAUFF products and submit them informally. This provides authentic insights straight from the field. Many thanks for all the fantastic submissions!
How were STAUFF clamps used in this unusual application?
In this application, Aluminium Clamps from the Heavy Series were used to securely fasten a custom-built bike rack to the roof of a classic vintage car. As conventional rack systems were not suitable for this vehicle, a bespoke solution was developed that combines stability, safety and ease of installation.
The example submitted impressively demonstrates how industrial components can be flexibly adapted to completely new areas of application – even in a private setting.
Why standard bike racks often don’t work with classic cars
Classic cars differ significantly from modern vehicles in many respects. This applies not only to design and technology, but also to the available mounting options.
Many classic cars lack standardised interfaces for modern bike rack systems. Roof rails or designated mounting points are often absent or do not comply with current standards. At the same time, protecting the often delicate vehicle surface plays a key role.
Under these conditions, standard solutions quickly reach their limits. Customised adaptations are necessary to ensure functionality and safety without compromising the vehicle’s integrity.
A bespoke solution through ingenuity and technical expertise
The example shown is based on a bespoke design that utilises the vehicle’s existing structures. The bike rack was installed on the roof and securely fastened using clamps.
This solution is a prime example of practical engineering:
Technical expertise meets creativity. Components from the industrial sector are repurposed and offer precisely the properties required to meet the challenge.
It is precisely in situations where standard solutions fall short that the added value of such well-thought-out, bespoke solutions becomes apparent.
Why STAUFF clamps were the ideal choice here
The STAUFF Aluminium Clamps used were originally designed for significantly more demanding operating conditions. These include applications in high-temperature environments up to 300 °C, such as in steelworks or power stations.
For the application shown here, this means maximum safety margins. The Heavy Series was deliberately chosen to ensure a particularly high level of stability.
This results in several advantages in practical use:
High robustness and load-bearing capacity
Weather resistance even under changing conditions
Precise selection to suit different diameters and requirements
Simple and secure installation
These features make the clamps a reliable solution – even in an application for which they were not originally intended.
Tried-and-tested industrial solutions for everyday vehicle use
STAUFF clamps have been an established standard in numerous industrial sectors for many years. They are used in large quantities by OEMs, particularly in vehicle manufacturing.
Typical applications include, amongst others:
Commercial and special-purpose vehicles
Municipal vehicles
Hydraulic systems
Cable and pipe fastenings
They are used to securely fasten compressed air lines, control lines and both rigid and flexible components. The fact that these industrial properties can be applied to individual everyday applications demonstrates just how versatile these products are.
FAQs
Why are STAUFF clamps suitable for individual applications?
STAUFF clamps offer a high degree of versatility in terms of size, material and design. This allows them to be flexibly adapted to different requirements and used even outside traditional areas of application.
Why were Aluminium Clamps used in this example?
